(BEIJING, April 25) – On the occasion of the Earth Day this year, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) volunteers in several universities of Beijing went to street communities to offer energy-saving tips.
The volunteers from Tsinghua University, Remin University of China and others visited households in Haidian, Xuanwu, Xicheng and Dongcheng to tell their experience how to save electricity and other energies.
In January, WWF launched a one-year energy-saving campaign under the theme of "20 Ways to 20%", aiming to help China fulfill its goal of reducing per GDP energy consumption by 20 per cent by the end of the 11th "Five-Year Plan" and mitigate environmental problems caused by global warming.
To help people understand what they could do in their daily life, WWF offered such tips as: choose energy-saving air conditioners, refrigerators and lamps; use computers skillfully; use microwave ovens to cook; use solar energy to heat water; use low-emission cars; take public transit and travel by bicycle more often.
