7. "Green Olympics, Green Action" Promotion Team

   In 2005, the "Green Olympics, Green Action" Promotion Team gave more than 180 lectures, covering 15 districts and counties and benefiting over 70,000 audiences directly. The lectures, characterized by abundant themes, have not only promoted the Olympics spirits, communicated the Green Olympics concept, but they have also popularized the environmental knowledge, raised the environmental awareness of the citizens, and motivated more people to join in the actions for the Green Olympics.

   Meanwhile, members of the Promotion Team visited the places doing community greening, wild animal protection, ecological restoration, rainwater collection system, etc., which have enriched the lectures and enhanced the promotion quality.

   7.1 "Love for the Olympics, Care for the Environment"

The report meeting

   On July 15, He Zhenliang, senior advisor of the Promotion Team and President of the IOC Commission for Culture and Olympic Education made a report entitled "Love for the Olympics, Care for the Environment".

   He reviewed the hardship of the two Olympics biddings he experienced, hoping that every Beijinger could treasure the precious opportunity to stage the Olympic Games, make efforts to enhance the civilization and morality level, actively participate in the Green Action, thus fulfilling the historical mission of an Olympics host city and creating a future full of peace, advancement, harmonious development for all human beings who share the beauty and happiness of life together.

   A total of 800 people attended the report meeting, including representatives from authorities such as the civilization offices, science committees, science associations, environmental protection bureaus of Beijing municipality and its districts and counties, the focal points of nongovernmental environmental organizations, streets, communities and schools, representatives of citizens and schools, journalists and all members of the Promotion Team.

   7.2 Program hosts' participation

Two new members joined

   To enhance the influence of the "Green Olympics, Green Action" Promotion Team and widen the range of the audiences, Gao Chaodong and Yao Changsheng who are hosts of Beijing TV Station's program "Capital Economic Report" were engaged as new members of the Team on August 26. As widely-known TV program hosts, they will shoulder the new mission of communicating the Green Olympics concept, spreading more environmental knowledge to the TV audiences and promoting the public participation in the Green Action.

   At the same time, the "Capital Economic Report" program joined hands with the Promotion Team Office to launch an environmental program named "Hosts in Action".

   7.3 "Small Hands Joined with Big Hand"

   On June 21, the activity of promotion lectures in series entitled "Small Hands Joined with Big Hands to Foster a Green Hope from the Wastes Classification" held its launching ceremony in Jingtai School of Chongwen District. Huo Xiu, lecturer of the Promotion Team vividly introduced the significance, purposes and methods of waste classification to students, which made them understand that waste classification can make wastes into something precious, such as the renewable resources for easy reuse.

   7.4 Global environment and Green Olympics

   On July 1, 2005, Jiang Xiaoke, Chairwoman of the Beijing Environmental Protection Foundation and leader of the Promotion Team gave a lecture on environmental protection entitled "Global Environment and Green Olympics" in BOCOG for all staff. She looked back on the 33 year-long environmental protection development in the world, introduced the environment issues that have raised global concern and looked into the future when "Green Olympics" actions will positively promote the environmental protection in Beijing.
