
(BEIJING, June 13) -- Some 150 people who are to manage sport presentations and award ceremonies for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games are undergoing a two-day training beginning Wednesday.
The participants include 23 managers and 16 deputy managers with backgrounds as high level referees, sport professors, sport organization administrators and broadcasting specialists. They will help some 20 teams to arrange a total of 302 and 471 award ceremonies for the Olympics and the Paralympics respectively, according to the workshop's organizer- the Cultural Activities Department of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG).
Thirty-nine assistant managers for such ceremonies are Games-time interns, who have just been selected from a total of 1,500 students from the China Communications University, the Central Academy of Drama and the Beijing Film Academy.
Following the training, they will be assigned to the 31 Beijing-based competition venues to receive further training in knowledge and skills related to specific sports.
The workshop attendants also include the staff of the co-host cities, namely Hong Kong (equestrian), Qingdao (sailing), Shanghai, Tianjin and Shenyang (football), as well as the staff of major broadcasting stations.
The organizers intend to form a 700-strong contingent to conduct sport presentations for the 28 sports and 38 disciplines of the Beijing Olympics. The team comprises managers, directors, broadcasters, editors, video directors, aquatics specialists, cameramen, and so on.
Combining broadcasting, music, video and art performances, sport presentation incarnates the competitive atmosphere of the sport venue and the charm of sports, immersing spectators in the competitions as well as in the host country's culture.
