
(BEIJING, June 16) -- China's Foreign Ministry attaches great importance to the preparatory work for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and will continue to provide excellent services in the area of foreign affairs to ensure the success of the Olympics, said Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi on Saturday.
In a meeting between the officials of the ministry and the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG), Yang listed security issues, media services, visa for foreigners and the reception of foreign guests as some of the affairs that his ministry will do its best to handle.
On behalf of the Beijing municipal government and BOCOG, BOCOG President Liu Qi wholeheartedly thanked the Foreign Ministry for its strong support in such areas as the Olympic Truce, the Olympic Torch Relay and security.
Liu, who is also member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and secretary of Beijing Municipal CPC Committee,expressed BOCOG's readiness to increase contacts with the ministry and hoped that the two sides would continue to make joint efforts to improve the publicity for the Olympics, extend quality services for the media, and ensure the success of the torch relay and the "Good Luck Beijing" test events, as well as the reception of foreign VIPs.
