(BEIJING, June 18) -- Jiang Xiaoyu, executive vice-president of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) met with visiting Greek Deputy Culture Minister George Orfanos on Monday.
Welcoming the guest, Jiang said Greece is the birthplace of the Olympic Movement and the Greek people have a deep understanding of the Olympic Spirit. BOCOG is seizing the opportunity of the Olympic preparations to instill the Olympic ideals in the young and the children and spread the Olympic Spirit. BOOCG wants to continue to strengthen its cooperation with the Greek side in sports, culture and other areas, he said.
Touching on the Olympic torch relay, Jiang said BOCOG will receive the Olympic flame from Greece next year. BOCOG appreciates the strong support extended by the Greek Olympic Committee and other Greek departments in the preparatory work for the torch relay, and hopes to continue to receive such support.
Mr. Orfanos praised BOCOG for its achievements in the Olympic preparations. He said Greece will do its best to help Beijing carry out its Olympic education campaign and the torch relay.
