(BEIJING, June 26) -- The China Agricultural University has a brand-new Gymnasium, and the University's Graduating Class of 2007 became the first public guests of the completed gymnasium on Monday.
The China Agricultural University Gymnasium will serve as the venue for the Wrestling competition at the Games of the XXIX Olympiad.
The gymnasium's rooftop has a staggered, stair-like design.
Upon entering the gym, one can see that panes of glass separate the roof's "steps which can be automatically adjusted to allow for ventilation and to add natural lighting.
The skylights provide enough lighting for daytime activities. The gym has no suspended ceiling and exposed pipes have been painted red and silver.
According to Ma Yinsheng, China Agricultural University's Vice-President and Director of the new gymnasium, extravagance was not the goal in building gymnasium; rather, the focus was on practicality -- to create a facility that would be useful both during and after the Olympic Games.
The gymnasium contains 6,000 permanent seats and 2,200 removable seats, which will free up gym space for future activities.
