(BEIJING, July 6) -- BOCOG President Liu Qi toured the sites of several Olympic venues on Thursday, his second visit in a week.
On Tuesday, he toured Wukesong Baseball Field, Laoshan Bicycle Moto Cross (BMX) Venue and Beijing Shooting Range Hall.
On Thursday, Liu stopped at Chaoyang Park Beach Volleyball Ground; the Digital Beijing Building, a main information facility for the Games; and the Olympic Green, which contains one third of the Beijing-based Olympic venues.
The president reiterated that the construction should be guided by the outlook of scientific development and concepts of "Green Olympics, High-tech Olympics and People's Olympics."
The workers told him that they have greened over 70 percent of Chaoyang venue's land space with trees and grass, installed solar electricity generators and transformed an old factory building into an office building for the Games' use. In addition, the sand to be used in the Olympic competitions was certified by FIVB officials as the "best one". Liu urged them to continue making efforts to build first-class Olympic projects.
At the site of Digital Beijing Building, Liu heard a report on how the construction staff is paying attention to energy-saving, environmental protection and IT infrastructure. He requested them to ensure the safe operation of the facilities.
At the Olympic Green, Liu visited the sites of the Hockey Field, Archery Field and Tennis Center. He praised the workers for their spirit of innovation as they are making use of rain water and recycled waste water, and found a way to cool down the ground temperature through mechanical and natural ventilation.
Summing up his feelings on the visit, Liu, who is also party secretary of Beijing municipality, said the workers and technicians have demonstrated the spirit of patriotism, hardworking, striving for perfection, innovation and teamwork. "The spirit conforms to the Olympic spirit and it will inspire us to hold a high-level Olympics," he said.
He reminded them again that safety should be put first, that attention should be paid to the success of the forthcoming test events and that careful consideration should be given to the post-Games use of the Olympic venues.
