
(BEIJING, July 9) -- Liu Qi, president of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) met with Mr. Tsang Tak-sing, secretary for home affaires of Hong Kong Special administrative Region (SAR) and executive vice-president of the Olympic Equestrian Committee (HK) on Monday.
"We have just celebrated the tenth anniversary of the return of Hong Kong to the motherland and all of us are glad for the long-term prosperity and stability of Hong Kong and its remarkable success in carrying out the one country, two systems principle," said Liu, who is also secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China.
With the efforts of the government of HK SAR and the Equestrian Committee, the preparatory work for the Olympic equestrian events is progressing smoothly,with the competition venues completed already, making them among the first venues for the Beijing Olympics to have been completed.
He said the decision to hold the Olympic equestrian events in Hong Kong is a testimony of the central government's confidence in the SAR and a recognition of Hong Kong's traditional horse-racing by the international sports community. The equestrian events will further promote the long-term prosperity and stability of Hong Kong. Liu said, expressing his confidence in the success of the events because of the strong support of the HK SAR.
Mr. Tsang said the HK SAR government and the Equestrian Committee have attached great importance to the equestrian events. The committee will speed up the preparatory work and display Hong Kong's advantages, he added.
