In 2003, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) voted to include BMX in the competition program of the 2008 Olympic Games and the Laoshan BMX venue will be used for the first time with the Good Luck Beijing 2007 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup competition this August.
The venue spans an area of 1.98 hectares and is 300-400 m in diameter. The track is 10m wide at the starting point and 5 m wide at other points, and it contains jumps, flattops, and other obstacles.
To ensure athletes will maintain speed and facilitate their stunts, the entire track is slightly downhill with a 4 m decline.
There are separate male and female tracks that cross at some points.
Additionally, an extra layer of asphalt will be added to the bends in the track with consideration to the athletes' safety.
