(BEIJING, July 20) -- When Zhouye tentatively asked her British counterpart, Mr. Ivan Tucker, CEO of the Mary Hare School, if it was possible to establish long-term cooperation between the two schools, the answer was a definite "yes".
July 20, a 70-member group from the international forum on special education visited Dongcheng Special Education School. It was the first time Zhouye, the head of the school met Mr. Ivan Tucker. She warmly invited him to dinner where the two had a heartfelt exchange and agreed on Zhou's proposition to link the two as sister schools.
Through varied discussion, the two schools decided to keep in touch with one another through e-mail and launched projects to expand their cooperation with a view to creating a better future for children with disabilities. Mr. Tucker also sent warm invitation to students and teacher in Beijing to visit his school.
Dongcheng Special Education School was awarded the "Beijing 2008 Olympic Education Model School" on May 21, 2006 (the National Day of Disabled Persons) by BOCOG, the Ministry of Education and the Beijing Municipal Government for its active efforts to spread the Olympic spirit and help bring the Olympics closer to children with disabilities.
