(BEIJING, July 28) -- An environment group under the Beijing Olympic Partner Club was launched at the 13th club event held in Hohhot, capital of Inner Mongolia on July 28, 2007.
The group comprises the Marketing and Construction and Environment Departments of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG), part of the Worldwide Olympic Partners (TOP) and Beijing 2008 Partners and Sponsors.
The non-permanent working body aims to provide BOCOG and the sponsors a platform for cooperation in the area of environmental work.
The group will encourage the sponsors to abide by environment-related laws and regulations of the central and local governments and relevant industries; encourage the sponsors to provide environment-friendly products, technologies and services in the process of sponsoring the Olympic Games; involve the sponsors in active environmental protection, publicity and education activities. The goal is to enhance the public awareness of the environmental issues, promote BOCOG's and sponsors' image as protectors of the environment and fulfill BOCOG's "Green Olympics" concept.
BOCOG Executive Vice-President and Secretary-General Wang Wei, other BOCOG officials and representatives of 22 Beijing Olympics partners attended the meeting.
