(BEIJING, July 27) -- The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) will be reducing the number of scheduled flights at Beijing Capital International Airport on a temporary basis.
Sources from Beijing Capital International Airport said the provisional adjustment will be implemented in three phases.
Currently there are 1,150 scheduled flights departing from PEK everyday. Upon the completion of the adjustment at the end of next March, the number will drop down to 1,000 with 55 flights departing during peak hours.
It is believed that with fewer flights, China's civil aviation system will have a good opportunity to improve its services and better prepare for the coming busy Olympic period.
To guarantee improved air quality during the Olympics, a five-scaled protection plan formulated by Air Traffic Management Bureau of the CAAC is also expected to come out next year.
This is the second time the CAAC has re-adjusted flights at Capital Airport since July 2006.
