(BEIJING, November 1) -- BOCOG president Liu Qi met with Dick Ebersol, chairman of NBC Universal Sports and Olympics in New York on Thursday.
Liu said NBC has visited Beijing several times since last year to discuss all the matters related to Olympic broadcasting. At the same time, NBC has launched quite a number of programs on the preparatory work for the Beijing Olympics. The live coverage of Beijing's celebrations for the one-year countdown of the Olympics on NBC's "Today" show is a good example, Liu said.
Updating the guests on Olympic preparations, Liu reiterated BOCOG's determination to provide quality and convenient services for the media from various countries and regions in line with the international practice and the experiences of previous Olympic Games, thus honoring its promise to stage a high-level Olympics with distinguishing features.
The 2008 Olympic Games will provide an important opportunity to deepen reciprocal understanding between the Chinese and American people and NBC's broadcast of the Beijing Olympics will promote Beijing and China's true image among the American audience, Liu said.
Mr. Ebersol thanked BOCOG for its quality services for NBC's coverage of Beijing Olympics preparatory work. He said his company will continue to cooperate with BOCOG and relevant Chinese government agencies and do its best to deliver a quality broadcast of the 2008 Olympic Games and enhance Americans' understanding of Beijing and China at large.
China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Wang Guangya, BOCOG Executive Vice-President and Secretary-General Wang Wei, Assistant Foreign Minister He Yafei attended the meeting.
