(BEIJING, November 5) -- New air-conditioned trains will begin test runs on Beijing Subway Line 1 and Line 2 on November 6, 2007.
Before the end of 2007, six air-conditioned trains will be put to use on the two lines.
The new trains have six compartments with a capacity for 1,820 passengers. The seats use a soft fabric covering.
The indoor noise will be reduced with noise-eliminating dampers and increased air-tightness in the compartments.
Every compartment will have eight LED screens to display the next stop and other operational service information in Chinese and English. During the Olympic Games, passengers will also be able to stay up-to-date on the Games through the screen.
