Leisel Jones, the Australian champion, was the brightest star at the third leg of the 2007 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Sydney (AUS), held on November 2-3, by establishing two new records of the competition in the women's 50m and 100m breaststroke. In the shorter distance, Jones clocked 30.03, while in the 100m she finished first in 1:04.37. This last result was the second best performance of the meet in the women's field, behind Lisbeth Lenton, also from Australia, who swam the 50m butterfly in 25.56.

Amongst men, Randall Bal (USA), as in Durban and Singapore (the first two meets of the circuit), was again the 'most valuable swimmer' of the meet, with his 23.42 in the 50m backstroke.

In terms of victories in Sydney, Lenton got four gold medals and Jones triumphed in the three breaststroke events. In the men's field, three swimmers got three victories each: Bal in the backstroke distances, the Korean Tae Hwan Park in the 200m, 400m and 1500m free, and the Australian Christian Sprenger in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke.

In the general ranking of the World Cup, and before the European legs, Randall Bal is first with 75 points, followed by Nikolay Skvortsov (RUS, 40) and Roland Schoeman (RSA, 32). In the women's classification, Natalie Coughlin (USA) is the provisional leader with 70 points, in front of Therese Alshammar (SWE, 40) and Lisbeth Lenton (AUS, 25).
