Newly manufactured linear motor train for the Capital Airport Track

(BEIJING, September 8) -- The first linear motor subway train for the future Beijing Subway Capital Airport Track rolled off the manufacturing line of Changchun Railway Vehicles Co., Ltd. on Sunday. The Capital Airport Track trains will be the nation's first automatic, driverless train and Beijing's first linear motor trains.

A major purpose of the Capital Airport Track next year will be to shuttle tourists and visitors to and from the Capital Airport, especially during the Olympics. As such, the subway line will serve the function of an airport terminal, and for many visitors, the Capital Airport Track will be one of their first impressions of China, says Dong Xiaofeng of Changchun Railway Vehicles.

The completely automated trains are to operate at a maximum speed of 110 km/h and will be controlled by signals transmitted wirelessly from the vehicle control center. The trains can brake with a precision of 250 mm.

And eight displays inside each subway car can provide real-time video signals, so passengers will be able to catch the latest Olympic action next summer en route.
