(BEIJING, November 6) -- Having Hong Kong host the 2008 Olympic Equestrian events will give rise to new opportunities for increased cooperation between Beijing and Hong Kong, said Beijing vice mayor Liu Jingmin Tuesday at the Olympic session of the 11th Beijing—Hong Kong Economic Cooperation Symposium.
Liu, an executive vice president of BOCOG, also acknowledged Hong Kong's advantages in terms of organizing equestrian competitions, with its extensive experience and abundance of professional talent.
Liu said that Hong Kong SAR, along with the Hong Kong Olympic Committee, the Equestrian Committee (Hong Kong), and the Equestrian Events (Hong Kong) of the Games of the XXIX Olympiad Company Limited, have invested human, material, and financial resources to carry out effective work. He also pointed out the support and attention from the Hong Kong compatriots.
Tsang Tak-sing, Hong Kong SAR's secretary for home affairs, explained that while preparing for the Olympic Equestrian events, the Hong Kong SAR government has also used the opportunity to encourage the local residents to actively participate in and contribute to the Olympics

At the meeting, Liu gave an account of the preparation progress for the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games. In addition, Agnes Allcock, Hong Kong SAR's deputy secretary for home affairs, and W K Lam, Chief Executive Officer, Equestrian Events (Hong Kong) of the Games of the XXIX Olympiad Company Limited, talked about Hong Kong SAR's preparations for the Olympic Equestrian events.
